COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN HEALTH EDUCATION

          After reading several pages, I realized that a substantial portion of the nurse's professional responsibilities include teaching.   I believe that it is critical in today's health care education — both patient education and nursing staff/student education — to empower patients and significant others to acquire essential basic knowledge and assume responsibility for self-care management, as well as for nurses to be accountable and skilled in providing high-quality treatment to a patient in a variety of contexts. As a nursing student, I must have a fundamental understanding of health-related teaching principles in order to carry out my professional obligations efficiently and effectively. The following principles are included: (1) credibility; (2) participation; (3) motivation; (4) comprehension; (5) reinforcement; (6) learning by doing; (7) known to unknown; (8) setting an example; (9) feedback; and (10) community leaders.      ...
